Presentation
A festival like no other
The Festival du Film Vert (Green Film Festival) is the only documentary festival dedicated to ecology and the environment in French-speaking Switzerland. Based in Le Sentier, in the canton of Vaud, it has become, over the years, an essential event where quality films from Switzerland and elsewhere are presented, and which have attracted tens of thousands of people over the years.
As the consequences of climate change become more and more visible, the Festival du Film Vert contributes to raising public awareness and encouraging changes in our lifestyles by giving visibility to the solutions presented in the films. Most screenings are followed by discussions with the audience, with many directors, specialists and other personalities invited to speak to answer questions and encourage the public to take concrete action in favour of the environment.
A DECENTRALISED EVENT
The particularity of the Festival du Film Vert is that it is multi-sited and decentralised: it would be absurd to encourage the public to make a long drive to see a film on global warming, for example. Since its creation in Orbe (VD) in 2006, the number of venues hosting screenings has increased steadily.
THE GOALS
In 2024, we plan to hold more than 400 screenings of about 60 different films in more than 100 locations: all the French-speaking cantons, Ticino and part of France. The 19th edition of the Green Film Festival starts on 2nd of March to end on the 14th of April.
CONNECTED WITH OTHERS FESTIVALS
Since 2015, the Green Film Festival has been part of the Green Film Network (GFN), an international network of some 40 "green" film festivals, like ours, around the world. This network allows for numerous exchanges of experiences and films, as well as various collaborations, including the Green Film Award, which rewards the best green film worldwide (each festival can propose a film from its selection).
